“He Did his bit”
“Proudly worn, beautifully told -
from a simple collection of shirts comes the story of a hero”
Eddie Butler
He Did His bit
March 1911 - a Charity Match at Newport RFC. Proudly sporting an All Black shirt worn on that famous day in 1905 when Wales overcame the touring New Zealanders, Charlie Pritchard poses for a pre game photograph. His friends and team mates are wearing the shirts he has collected during his stellar career, and his modest aim is to raise funds for a local church roof. Just five years later, this gentle giant of Welsh rugby was lying bleeding to death in a Casualty Clearing Station in Northern France.
Each of these shirts tells a story…the book will tell the story of each shirt in turn, and will hit the bookshops as the World Rugby Museum opens an exhibition of the shirts at Twickenham.
